I am Iron Man

Cue Black Sabbath's classic, please. And play it LOUD. :)

A kick ass movie. Simply kick ass. Love it.

I'm not a big fan of the superheroes movie genre - except for The Incredibles... :) And I gotta admit I did like Batman Begins and X-Men... but this one here is in a league of its own. Maybe the fact that I'm a solid fan of Robert Downey Jr. helps, and that I tend to like Jon Favreau's quirkiness too. In any case, a very enjoyable adventure that I can barely wait to repeat. And thanks to

The Fictional Character Who-Would-You-Shag Meme

  • May 5, 2008
  • Post a comment
If you'd shag them put the name in bold.
If you'd shag them after a few drinks put the name in italics.
If you'd shag them only if they have protection underline the name.
If you wouldn't shag or don't know who they are, leave as is.
If you wouldn't shag them at gunpoint, cross the name out.

Add one or more character names and/or fandoms of your own. Once the list gets long enough to be unwieldy (use your judgment) start removing one name for every name you add.

SUNSHINE!!!

  • Apr 27, 2008
  • Post a comment

It came to pass. The rain, that is. It's gone. Well, at least for the weekend. Nice sunny day yesterday, and this morning, so far, the sun came up and is still shining!

I looked at the barometer and the sock is up! So I guess the wind will pick up soon and it'll get cloudy and rainy again for a really depressing Monday. BUT, let's enjoy the sun while we have it.

::shoots off for a walk to the beach::

::sneaks back in::

Forgot to say, I had the most weird ass dream last night... George Clooney was playing dentist in my mouth. George Clooney. Fixing my teeth. And while it didn't hurt, if I'm going to dream a vivid dream with Clooney in it, I'd rather not be playing dentist with him!

Alright, I'm out of here.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Cabin Fever

We're entering what... Day 14 of monsoon-like rain plaguing New South Wales? It's driving us insane. I'm all for rain and the gods know how much Australia needs it but could we get just one day's break? Lily wants to go out, and understandably so. Every time the heavy rains halt for a bit, we start getting ready to get out just to be rained on the moment we step outside. It's really frustrating.

At least there's the gym. Lily gets to go to the creche and run around and play with other kiddies. Thing it, this week I'm only booked in for two visits, one of which was yesterday, so it's not much freedom for my little monster. I guess I'll take her shopping tomorrow - if we can get to the car without getting drenched.

My back had been steadily getting worse since Easter so I went to see that orthopaedic surgeon again last Friday. Got another costisone infusion done. Damn, I hate needles! Of course now my back is actually worse - as it did last time - which is why I'm going to the gym only twice this week. Tuesday's session made it worse so I'm fearing tomorrow's. I'll try and take it even easier than I did yesterday.

Got some news from my best friend back home. We've been close since primary school and it wasn't all good news. A family friend just passed away. That guy (as well as my friend's dad), I kid you know not, I saw more than I ever saw my  own father back in those years. I hadn't seen him in years now but you know how it is, you go on living thinking they're carrying with their own life happily. It's a blow. He was only 49. You really don't know what's waiting around the corner for you, do you?

What else? Well, the big trip is coming up. We'll be touching down in LA on the 23rd of May. I need to start planning and packing. And getting special requests filled and getting through the food in the fridge and the cupboards. When you go away for nearly 8 weeks, you can't leave much behind. ::sigh:: I don't feel like it. If it wasn 't for my bro's wedding, we wouldn't be doing this... though the thought of escaping this crappy weather makes the whole thing more appealing.

Went to the cinema last night. I wanted to see Nim's Island for my Gerry Butler fix but it wasn't meant to be. Rob preferred risking Street Kings so we did. Hugh Laurie as an IA captain piqued my curiosity enough to agree, I must admit. It was very violent, very graphic but not bad. Just predictable. Very predictable, in fact.

Oh, and I caught a trailer for Iron Man. As a kid, Tony Stark had to be my favourite superhero. As much as I ever got into superheroes, which wasn't very much. I had great difficulty believing anyone walked around in so much Spandex. Anyway, I digress. MY GODS, the trailer SUCKED ASS. It looked like a Ned Kelly remake, damn it! I can't remember much of the original Marvel comic. Maybe that's a good thing because if it was as bad as what the trailer showed Iron Man's origins to be then it's really crushing my kiddy's happy memories...

Help!

My paid account is expiring in a few hours. And I'm actually contemplating renewing it but I'm wondering if I go for the automatic payments (to get the best value - as it says on the box) if I can really turn it off (and back on) at any time.

It's the first time I've had to deal with a paid account (thanks spacellama) so I'm really unfamiliar with the ins and outs. I just don't like the thought of automatic payments with web services and certainly not with a Russian company such as this one. So, yeah, you guys give the pulse on this. Cheers!

New TV!

Richard Roxburgh and Susie Porter in East of Everything. (photo from SMH) Sunday night TV. Not usually very exciting. Actually, come to think of it, I haven't had the chance to sit in front of the box on a Sunday night for quite some time, so really I could be talking out of my arse. :D
In any case, yesterday, ABC surprised me...

Channel-surfing, I came across an image of Richard Roxburgh, looking somewhat relaxed (and damn yummy) but sad. Immediately, I sat up and waited for more. Next cut brought in Tom Long, all pissy and moaning, and so I stuck around to find out why. Turns out it was the first of a six-part Aussie drama called East of Everything. It just drew me in and I stayed for the hour. Very promising. Will certainly tune in next week.

Art Watkins returns to the neglected resort of Broken Bay, the eastern-most point of Australia, when his mother dies. Art hopes his stay will be brief but the legacy from his mother binds him to his wayward younger brother and the teenage son he has hardly seen in ten years. The longer Art stays, the more he becomes enmeshed in the lives of the locals and the drifters who have found safe haven in Broken Bay.

2_the_max , you should check it out. More info here. It's apparently coming out on DVD in May.

Andrew Buchan as John Mercer in The Fixer.Tonight, managed to get the kid to bed early and hubby and I snuggled up on the couch (it's getting rather cold down here) to watch this latest Brit drama from ITV called The Fixer. It certainly grabbed me. I shouldn't be surprised: it's apparently from the same folks who gave us Spooks and Life on Mars. It's different, it's got interesting characters, a different pace, it's nitty-gritty and yeah, I guess, so far so good.

John Mercer is ex-Special Forces serving a double life sentence for the murder of his aunt and uncle. It was a crime he committed out of revenge for the years of physical abuse his sister Jess suffered at their hands. Released from prison unexpectedly early, John is introduced to the shadowy Lenny Jameson, a police officer retired on grounds of “ill health.” He quickly learns that his freedom comes at a price. Jameson runs an unofficial operation with a simple brief: remove untouchable criminals and disorganise crime. Mercer’s role is that of hitman. Blackmailed into killing for the state, Mercer struggles to come to terms with his mission.

I must admit the premise kind of made me think of La Femme Nikita but that's where the similarity ends. I've only seen the first episode so far, but I'd say it's a keeper. :)
